Experiment n.1

Welcome Chemists!!! Welcome to our first laboratory experiment of 2013. Our visit to the Chemistry laboratory a few weeks ago was just an introductory one. Our objective was simple. To learn about all of the different pieces of information that we can find by looking at the labels of different substances containers. We found everything that we need to know to understand the element with which we were working on!
  1. Name of the Element or compound (Eg. Nitric acid)
  2. Pureness: PA, PRS (purissimo), PR and PS
  3. Chemical formula (Eg. HNO3) and molecular mass (M=63.01)
  4. Composition (Eg. 1L = 1.395 kg - 1kg = 0.717 L)
  5. Minimum assay/ Richness (65%)

These are the main characteristics that can be found, among others. By using this bits of information, it is possible to calculate the mass of any substance, in moles, given a certain volume of the substance, for example. This is extremely useful when carrying out an experiment in which a specific amount of a substance has to be measured.
